Ma Durga

The auspicious festival of Durga Puja is an annual five-day celebration originating in the Indian subcontinent which pays homage to the goddess Maa Durga. It celebrates the victory of good over evil as goddess Durga killed demon king Mahishasur. 

 

Pujo

Pearland Durga Pujo (PDP) was started in 2022 by Mantra Pearland as an informal group of volunteers.  The pujo has grown and become a part of the community. PDP had more than 500 attendees last year and PDP expect it to grow bigger and better every year with the support of Pearland and surrounding neighborhoods. Pujo is 2 days program packed with devotion and celebration of victory over evil. 

 

Shindoor Khela and Dhunuchi Naach

One of the most important rituals of the final day of Durga Puja festivities is Sindur Khela, where married women in Bengal smear each other with sindur or vermillion and pray for the long lives of their husband. 

 

Cultural Program

Durga Pujo is also part of showcasing hindu culture and our devotion to Maa Durga by performing dance, song and other cultural activities. Pearland Durga Pujo invests great time and effort to showcase local and national talent to cheerful crowd and encourages everyone to participate every year.
